Disorders of Sleep and Motor Control During the Impaired Cholinergic Innervation in Rat – Relevance to Parkinson’s Disease

چکیده
The medical profession has been generally very slow to acknowledge the importance of sleep medicine and sleep research. Disorders of sleep are related to anxiety, many mental and neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular and respiratory disorders, and obesity. Our knowledge of the neural substrates of sleep/wake states and sleep-related behavior disorders regulation in health and the diseases, over more than 50 years of sleep research, is based on the experiments in animal models, pharmacotherapy, and the neuropatho‐ logical studies in humans. But, we still need further work in fundamental multidiscipli‐ nary and clinical research between sleep and neurodegenerative disease investigators to understand normal and abnormal sleep, and to provide new insights into preventive or disease-altering approaches for therapy. Our aim is to give an overview of our recent results related to the importance of thalamocortical cholinergic brain system in the disorders of sleep and motor control during sleep, with particular relevance to Parkinson’s disease.

A study on striatal local electrical potential changes in an animal model of Parkinson's disease
Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that does not develop spontaneously in some animal species. PD can be induced experimentally in some laboratory animals including mouse, rat and horse. Globus pallidus (GP) and substantia nigra pars compacta (SNc) are damaged in patients with PD. The hallmark of PD is a progressive impaired control of movement, an alteration of autonomic ...

متن کاملThe Effects of Sodium Hydrosulfide on Motor Learning in a Rat Model of Parkinson’s Disease
Background Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S), a novel endogenous gasotransmitter, plays an important role in neuromodulation and memory performance and also protects neurons against neurotoxin-induced neurodegeneration. Objective This study aimed to investigate the potential neuroprotective effects of Sodium Hydrosulfide (NaHS), on motor learning in a unilateral 6-Hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) rat model of Pa...

Objective(s): The present study was conducted to examine the effect of sleep deprivation (SD) on the anti-apoptotic pathways in Parkinsonian rats. Materials and Methods: Male Wistar rats (n = 40) were assigned to four groups (10 animals each): sham surgery (Sham), 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA)-lesioned (OH), 6-OHDA-lesioned plus grid control (OH+GC), 6-OHDA-lesioned plus SD (OH+SD). Parkinson’s di...

Background: Previous studies have shown cycloserine to be neuroprotective in some neurodegenerative disorders. Objectives: To investigate the effect of cycloserine on motor function in Parkinson’s disease in a rat model. Materials and Methods: Fifty-six healthy male wistar rats were used in this study and were divided into seven groups according to receiving saline, low dose (i.e. 100 m...
